Stephane PADU: From Sketch to Finished Work

Le Havre Port Centre invites you to the latest edition of L’Escale du Mois. This month, Stéphane PADU, a painter and member of the Académie des Arts & Sciences de la Mer, takes centre stage.

This event celebrates the exceptional donation of a work that symbolises the strong bond between the artist and the association since his first exhibition. To mark the occasion, an exhibition and workshops for all ages are on offer.

Immerse yourself in Stéphane Padu’s world and discover his creative process. The exhibition reveals the five key stages of his work: immersion, sketches, drawing on canvas, building the background and colour theory, right through to the final painting. Each stage reveals secrets and highlights the evolution of his works. This captivating experience will appeal to art enthusiasts and the simply curious alike.

To make this event interactive, Stéphane Padu will be leading two workshops:

• Workshop for 7–12-year-olds: from 10.00 am to 11.30 am. A fun introduction to unleashing creativity, drawing inspiration from the artist’s techniques. Free workshop.

The Shapes of the Eure

Set off on a walking tour through the heart of the Eure district, where industrial heritage meets modernity. Discover the three impressive dry docks, which enable the maintenance of ships and river vessels (barges, pusher tugs, river cruise ships, etc.) whilst out of the water, as well as the civil engineering works that bring this unique site to life.

Your guide, Stéphane Carpentier, Division Manager at HAROPA-PORT, invites you to get up close to these exceptional facilities to reveal their technical secrets and their importance to port operations. A unique insight into maritime heritage – not to be missed!

Anita Conti, an exceptional woman

Immerse yourself in the captivating world of Anita Conti, France’s first female oceanographer and a visionary figure of the 20th century, through a rich and immersive exhibition inspired by the exhibition ‘Anita CONTI, the lady with the wind-filled soles’ presented by the Musée de Fécamp from 29 June 2024 to 5 January 2025. This version will be on display exclusively during the LH Port Centre’s ‘Escales du mois’ events on 19 January, 8 February, 22 March and 27 April 2025.

This exhibition reveals the many facets of Anita Conti, blending science, art and the avant-garde. Her career as an oceanographer is explored through her pioneering research into the seas and marine ecosystems, reflecting her passion for the ocean and her pioneering commitment to the environment. Added to this is her talent as a writer, highlighted by her journalistic and literary works, which depict the sea with rare depth and sensitivity.

Her unique perspective as a photographer and videographer is revealed through striking photographs and archive footage that transport the viewer into her world, caught between a fascination with the oceans and concerns for humanity. Added to this are the illustrations from the graphic novel by Catel & Bocquet, which pay tribute to this extraordinary woman. An exclusive screening of a film dedicated to their work enriches the exhibition, offering a different perspective on the life and work of Anita Conti.

Finally, the exhibition concludes with the screening of a rare filmed interview with Anita Conti, taken from the INA archives. In this poignant piece, she shares her visionary and poetic perspective on the ocean and its inhabitants, revealing an avant-garde personality deeply shaped by the issues of her time.

Through this fascinating exhibition, let yourself be transported by the extraordinary journey of a woman who successfully combined science, literature and art to celebrate the sea and its mysteries. An unmissable experience to discover or rediscover the inspiring life of this exceptional woman.
