Two years of post-secondary education (Bac + 2): BTS in Surveying, Topography and Digital Modelling; Higher Technician’s Diploma in Sustainable Development (ENTE); Professional Qualification as a Geomatics Technician
Bac + 3 Professional Bachelor’s degree in Surveying and Geomatics / Cartography, Topography and Geographic Information Systems / Spatial Planning and Urban Planning
Bac + 5 Master’s degree specialising in Geography, Planning, Environment and Development; Master’s degree specialising in Geomatics; Engineering degree from the National School of Geographical Sciences; Engineering degree from the Paris-Est Higher School of Engineering at Gustave Eiffel University, specialising in IT
Sectors and organisations
The majority of geomatics specialists work in the public sector. It is possible to work as a civil servant or on a contract basis, within a government department or a local authority, a nature reserve, or in public institutions such as the IGN (National Institute of Geographic and Forest Information) or Météo-France. Geomatics specialists may also be employed in the private sector: within oil, civil engineering and engineering groups, or by network operators (water, gas, electricity, telecommunications), etc.
