LH Port Centre has had new premises at the Citadelle Terminal since 20 October 2024, which are open to the public. The official opening, accompanied by a press conference, will take place on 12 November 2024.

Occupying an area of 1,000 m² across two floors, not far from the Seamen’s Club and Brittany Ferries, LH Port Centre is making a fresh start and gaining new momentum to forge a link between the port and local residents.

Mission continued despite the closure

Since the end of July 2023, when the premises at the Espace Graillot closed, the LH Port Centre has continued its work, notably by organising guided tours of the port or the Seine Estuary nature reserve to explore the local marine wildlife.

€650,000 was provided by the partners (Haropa Port, the City of Le Havre, Le Havre Seine Métropole, UMEP and CCI Seine Estuaire) to redesign the museum’s layout and exhibition design. Financial contributions from the EU’s ERDF, the Normandy Region, the State Secretariat for the Sea and Biodiversity, and VNF also helped fund these improvements.

A room dedicated to the ports along the Seine corridor, which, thanks to interactive displays, offers visitors a better understanding of local infrastructure. Certain areas will be accessible depending on the programme. Bénédicte Dufour, communications officer, states that the main audience consists of schoolchildren (6,000 per year), students and professional groups. One area is dedicated to maritime and port professions, and another to the specific features of the Port of Le Havre; these are open at weekends and during the monthly themed events.

It should be noted that the Espace Graillot (the former home of the LH Port Centre), following renovation works costing €4 million, will become a centre for contemporary art, due to open in 2025.
