In the face of rising risks of corruption linked to organised crime and drug trafficking in port areas, prevention and awareness-raising are key tools.

It is with this in mind thatthe French Anti-Corruption Agency (AFA) has launched a series of training videos entitled ‘Corruption in ports, Let’s Stop the Risk of a Spiral”, designed to help port professionals identify high-risk situations and adopt the right reflexes.

The Le Havre Maritime and Port Union (UMEP), throughthe French Maritime and Port Union (UMPF), is proud to have contributed to this collective initiative, which mobilises the entire port community around a major issue of security and integrity.

Publication of a series of training videos on corruption risks in port areas: ‘Corruption in ports: let’s stop the risk of a downward spiral! Preventing risks and adopting the right reflexes in the context of drug trafficking’

As part of its mission to prevent and combat corruption, the French Anti-Corruption Agency (AFA) is publishing a series of training videos on the risks of corruption linked to organised crime and drug trafficking within port facilities.

These videos provide a practical tool for port operators to help raise awareness amongst their staff of the risks of being approached and drawn into a cycle of corruption, particularly by drug traffickers seeking to bribe them.

Produced by the AFA, the video was jointly funded by the Union of French Ports (UPF), the National Union of Port Handling Industries (UNIM), the National Federation of Road Transport – FNTR, the Organisation of European Road Hauliers – OTRE – and the project received support from the French Maritime and Port Union – UMPF, the Federation of Freight Forwarders – TLF Overseas, the French Shipping Agents and Consignors – AMCF, as well as the relevant authorities (police, gendarmerie, customs, the Directorate-General for Infrastructure, Transport and Mobility, and MILDECA – the Interministerial Mission to Combat Drugs and Addictive Behaviours). Businesses, professional associations and government bodies are invited to make use of this video to organise their own awareness-raising sessions.

This training initiative also forms part of the wider inter-ministerial campaign ‘We all pay the price for drugs’, led by the Government to strengthen national efforts against drug trafficking. This campaign aims to highlight that the consequences of drugs extend far beyond the individual user: they affect security, public health, social cohesion and the economy of our regions, and concern society as a whole.
