Two new mega gantries for TN and TPO
Terminaux de Normandie (TN) and Terminal Porte Océane (TPO) are due to take delivery of two mega gantry cranes from Shanghai in early November 2024. These are the first two in a series of nine.
TIL’s €900 million investment plan
TIL, the majority shareholder in both terminals and a port subsidiary of MSC, is thus implementing its ambitious €900 million investment programme, the aim of which is to double its handling capacity in Le Havre.
Built in China by ZPMC, the gantry cranes were loaded onto the heavy-lift vessel Zhen Hua 27, one of the 27 deck carriers operated by its subsidiary ZOMC, and will be delivered directly to the Porte Océane terminals.
Currently, the largest container ships have 24 rows of containers across their width. These new gantry cranes, which are among the largest in the world, can handle up to 27 rows of containers. They will therefore be at the cutting edge when it comes to handling the next generation of container ships.
TN and TPO, operating under the name Terminaux à Conteneurs de France (TCF), currently have 11 gantry cranes; this capacity will therefore increase to 15 gantry cranes by the end of 2024. Ultimately, TIL plans to deploy 24 gantry cranes at the Le Havre terminal.
