OTRE and TLF have drawn attention to a ministerial decree of 29 July 2021 amending the maximum authorised mass (MAM) of motorised land vehicles.

Consequently, from 1 October 2025, road trains with more than four axles carrying loads exceeding 40 tonnes for road transport within France must use a vehicle first registered after 1 January 2014, i.e. Euro 6.

A new step

Euro 5 lorries will therefore no longer be permitted to operate with a gross vehicle weight exceeding 40 tonnes, marking a further step towards less polluting lorries. The aim is to reduce CO₂ emissions from road transport.

This is a real blow to road hauliers, many of whom still use Euro 5 vehicles and will now have to invest in new lorries, incurring additional costs.
