With the aim of decarbonising the Seine corridor, Haropa Port and SNCF Réseau brought together the key players in rail freight in Le Havre last June.

During the meeting, Florian WEYER, Deputy Managing Director of Haropa Le Havre, presented his plan.

“Our ambition is to triple the volume of containers transported by rail by 2025, and this is what we intend to achieve in partnership with SNCF Réseau through the ‘Perl’ initiative,” he said.

As part of this initiative, Haropa and SNCF Réseau have committed to bringing together the various stakeholders in the sector on a regular basis in order to enhance the attractiveness and reliability of rail transport.

Vincent Palix, SNCF Réseau’s Regional Director for Normandy, explains that in 2023 “more than €125 million is being invested in Normandy to improve the performance of rail infrastructure, thanks to support from the State and the Region. The ‘Perl’ initiative, which aims to improve train punctuality, is the second pillar of rail performance’.

Added to this budget is the €15 million from the ‘Ambition ferroviaire’ plan launched by Haropa Port. 

“This major project will enable us to have an efficient port rail network, fully fulfilling its role as an interface between the gateway for goods in Le Havre and services to the hinterland. All of this will benefit logistics and industrial operators in the industrial-port area,” said Florian WEYER.
