CUSTOMS DECLARANT
A customs declarant prepares the administrative documents required to import or export goods internationally. They act as the link between client companies and customs authorities and ensure that procedures run smoothly. They mainly work for a logistics provider or a freight forwarder.

- Proficiency in office software and software specific to customs operations.
- Knowledge of customs procedures and the full range of computerised systems
- Knowledge of current legislation relating to taxation and customs procedures (within their remit or sector)
- Proficiency in nomenclatures and special customs procedures
- Proficiency in simplified procedures
- Proficiency in the rules for tariff classification of goods and the customs encyclopaedia
- Proficiency in the regulatory framework governing their products and sector of activity
- Proficiency in Incoterms in shipping transactions
- Proficiency in transit procedures
- Knowledge of international transport practices by mode
Educational qualifications and training
Two years’ post-secondary qualification: BTS in International Trade (with or without work-study programme), BTS in Transport Management and Associated Logistics (with or without work-study programme), BUT in Logistics and Transport Management, Bachelor’s degree in Senior Maritime, Port and Customs Operations, Bachelor’s degree in Customs Declaration and Consultancy (DDC)
Sectors and organisations
They may be employed in the transit or customs department of a transport company, a freight forwarder or a transport agent authorised by customs.
