LOGISTICS PROCUREMENT OFFICER

Working in close contact with the sales teams and suppliers, the procurement officer ensures the smooth running of the production line and initiates restocking of raw materials. By monitoring stock levels, their work ensures the continuity of the production line. They may also be required to carry out certain sales-related tasks, such as negotiating with suppliers.

Qualities and skills

  • Enjoys working with people (deals with a wide range of contacts)
  • Flexibility (shift work)
  • Physical stamina (when working outdoors or in cold storage areas)
  • Knowledge of the entire procurement function
  • Knowledge of the supply chain and the specific IT tools used to manage it
  • Understanding of the company’s product portfolio and supplier base
  • Knowledge of transport rules and standards and customs regulations
  • Knowledge of the supply chain
  • Knowledge of supplier quality standards
  • Fluency in English

Education and training

A five-year post-secondary qualification in logistics, procurement management or supply chain management is often required for this role.

Sectors and organisations

The role of procurement officer can be carried out within any type of organisation. Procurement officers work either in production (factories, workshops, laboratories, etc.) or in distribution.
