The freight forwarder arranges, in their own name and under their own responsibility, the carriage of goods entrusted to them by the shipper, importer or exporter. They select the various modes of transport according to their requirements. He has an obligation of result towards his client, which distinguishes him from the freight forwarder, who has an obligation of means. The latter uses the routes and methods specified by his client.

Educational qualifications and training

Two to five years of higher education (Bac + 2 to Bac + 5): BTS in Transport and Logistics Management (or related fields, such as International Trade); BUT in Transport & Logistics, Logistics and Transport Management (with a relevant specialisation); Professional Bachelor’s Degree (Licence pro) in Logistics and International Transport; etc.

It is also possible to enter this role by demonstrating at least 5 years’ professional experience, particularly as a manager within a freight forwarding company.

Sectors and companies

International transport sector. The freight forwarder works for a private transport organisation. In Le Havre, several dozen companies specialise in customs clearance and transport.
