In addition to his duties relating to the protection of the public and property, and the supervision of construction sites, this officer is able to implement the security measures set out in the ISPS (International Ship and Port Facility Security) Code: securing port facilities using screening methods comparable to those used in the aviation sector. They are most commonly involved in the control and security of the ZIP for the benefit of infrastructure and clients.

Educational and training requirements

In-house training provided by the employer, plus additional external training depending on the organisation and its staff policy. One or more qualifications (Fire Safety and Personal Assistance Service, workplace first-aider, etc.) are required.

A CAP or vocational baccalaureate in the field of safety is an additional asset when applying for the role.

Sectors and organisations

This role is carried out within safety services operating at seaports, lakeside ports or river ports. In Le Havre, the service – which forms part of the port authority – employs 140 security professionals (as of 2023), men and women from a variety of professional backgrounds, selected by specialist staff.
